Paint gun adjustments and maintenance are very important for a quality repair.

Paint Gun Tip and Needle Adjustment

  1. In the summer use a larger tip and needle set for less atomization. This will allow paint to have longer flash time for it to uniform itself.
  2. In the winter use a smaller tip and needle set for more atomization. In colder weather paint has more time to flash.
  3. Correct choice of tip and needle set in cold or warm weather will help with your flash times.

Paint Gun Maintenance- Cleaning.

  1. Use a gun cleaning machine and rinse gun with clean thinner after every use.
  2. Keep a brush cleaning kit handy.
  3. Making sure that your paint gun is clean after every use will eliminate having to dip your paint gun in a cleaning solvent.
  4. If you need to dip your paint gun in cleaning solvent DO NOT leave the gun in it for more than 30 minutes. If you do, solvent will get in all the air passageways and will ruin the seals in the paint gun.
  5. Make sure that any time a paint gun is disassembled and reassembled all parts removed are installed properly so that the paint gun will be in good operating condition.
  6. Lubricate your paint gun moving parts on a regular basis with an automotive paint gun lubricant only. Other lubricants can cause contamination.
  7. Rebuild your paint gun at any time that you think it is necessary. Rebuild kits are available for most paint guns.

Paint Gun Maintenance- Before Painting

  1. Make sure the vent hole on your cup lid is clean so that air can enter and allow the gun to breath. (A clogged vent hole will starve the paint gun from material causing a dry finish and making it impossible to paint.)
  2. Always make sure your aircap, fluid tip and needle are good and clean.
  3. Keep outer paint gun body clean of dry paint. (Dry paint can start to peel of the gun and fall on your paint job creating a mess.)

Note: For your safety, when applying the steps above always use the proper safety equipment, respirator, safety glasses, gloves etc.
